Air Force jet flypast on Wednesday

A ROYAL Australian Air Force F/A-18F Super Hornet will conduct a low-level fly past over the Cairns Esplanade on Wednesday.

A Defence spokesman said between about 2.20pm-2.45pm, a single F/A-18F Super Hornet from Number 1 Squadron, RAAF Base Amberley, will conduct a low-level fly past over the Cairns Esplanade, as part of Exercise Crimson Dawn 24-1. 

“The aircraft will fly over Yorkey’s Knob and then low-level in a southbound direction over the Cairns coast before turning left over the bay to fly past the Esplanade a second time,” he said.

Dawn aims to graduate the newest generation of F/A-18F Super Hornet fast jet pilots and weapon system officers. 

“Aircrew will conduct training sorties from RAAF Base Townsville between June 17-26  during the exercise.

“Low-level flying activities are conducted within strict safety and operational guidelines.

“Flying is subject to change, including short notice cancellation, due to variables such as air traffic control requirements, weather, and operational availability.”
