Douglas Shire Council Announces A New Ceo
A leading local government Chief Executive Officer has been appointed to the top job at Douglas Shire Council.
The newly appointed CEO, Rachel Cooper, will start work at Council’s Mossman Administration Building on February 14 after accepting the position in December 2021.
With over 15 years of experience as a CEO and Corporate Executive in both State and Local Government, Ms Cooper has led complex organisations through change and achieved measurable results in growth and efficiency.
Most recently, Ms Cooper held the CEO position at North Burnett Regional Council. Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said he was looking forward to working closely with such a highly respected leader.
“I was thrilled at the calibre of applicants that applied for the role of CEO and believe that we will be in incredibly good hands with the choice that Councillors have made,” he said.
“Rachel’s experience, qualifications and demeanour will be a perfect fit for what Douglas requires as we move into this next stage, and I look forward to working with her.”
“She is passionate about Local Government, believing it is the tier of government closest to the community, where real concerns can be heard, and the ability to deliver focused outcomes successfully are made,” Mr Kerr said.
Ms Cooper has substantial experience and qualifications in law, financial management, marketing, and business management that make her a great addition to Douglas Shire Council; she said she is very excited to begin her journey at the Douglas Shire.
“My family and I are excited about moving to the Douglas Shire and exploring the beautiful areas within it,” Ms Cooper said.
“I am delighted to be collaborating with Mayor Kerr, Councillors and staff to continue to deliver positive outcomes for the Douglas community.”
