This first event, to be held on Friday, March 31 at Mossman Support Services, promises to be full of spice with the theme of ‘Bollywood Nights’ set to offer a sumptuous feast for the eyes, ears and appetite.

The vibrant evening will bring a taste of India in more ways than just the amazing food, with belly dancers, henna artists, Bollywood music and backyard games, with guests being met with big colours and even bigger smiles.

One of the Douglas Shire’s local community heroes and renowned connoisseur of Indian cuisine, Sid Murthy, will no doubt be mixing up the chillies and turmeric, while cooking a delicious three course traditional Indian feast, presented in the rustic and popular community oriented setting of Mossman Support Services.

This treasured facility not only now has its own ‘resilience garden’ to grow many of the required food items, but also has superb kitchen facilities to present a top-notch menu worthy of any high class resort.

The intention of this fun night, and indeed future multicultural feasts, is to celebrate the diversity and rich tapestry of international cultures thriving in the Douglas Shire while raising funds for local community projects.

All proceeds from Bollywood Nights will go towards two beach and ocean access wheelchairs for the Douglas Shire. These amazing devices not only allows easier access onto the beach but also, by the nature of their design, allow users to easily and safely enter the water itself. This, for some, may well be a first time opportunity.

As usual in the Douglas Shire, a host of incredible local sponsors have stepped up to the support the event, including Silky Oaks Lodge, Mossman Meat House and the Post Office Hotel.

As with the many activities at Mossman Support Services, the night is shaping up to be a fantastic time. Limited seats are available, which means tickets are already selling fast.

If you are interested, head straight to the Mossman Support Services Facebook Page and follow the Humanitix link. For any questions or to purchase your ticket in person, you can call Mossman Support Services on 4098 2836

I’m off to try on my new Sherwani and Kurta, so for now it’s Gazza signing out. Send your stories to gazza@cairnslocalnews.com.au
