The Bureau of Meteorology has declared ‘La Niña’ conditions until November which means above median rainfall in Douglas Shire is very likely. There is also an increased risk of flooding after above average rainfall for the past few months and above average soil moisture levels.
Now is the time to think about your emergency plan and familiarize yourself with the Douglas Dashboard.
Stock an emergency kit – include a battery-operated radio, food, clothing, important documents and first aid.
Plan ahead for rain and localized flooding by cleaning out roof gutters and downpipes, trimming tree branches close to your roof and inspecting your roof for potential leaks.
To help people monitor road conditions during periods of heavy rainfall, flood cameras are available at the Douglas Dashboard to provide near real time images of key crossings in the region.
