Innisfail Chamber’s Shopping List
Cleaner, brighter and more welcoming, this is the message the Innisfail and District Chamber of Commerce has for Council and the rest of the community.
Innisfail Chamber President, Nadine Picini is committed to a total face-lift for the town. “This is not a wash-down and coat of paint,” Ms Picini said.
“What we need and plan for goes deeper than that.
“We recently had the opportunity to walk through town with Councilors Nolan and Barnes and see the areas that really need a total clean-up.
“Street need pressure cleaning, footpaths need scrubbing, the signage needs replacing and buildings need repainting and revitalising.
“There still facades with signage for businesses that closed almost 20 years ago.
“We need to create a brighter, cleaner and more tropical landscape, creating a wow effect with visitors and locals alike.”
The Chamber would like to see the streetscape changed and reflecting a more tropical theme. The gardens through the town centre should be planted with tropical flowering plants, heliconias, crotons and corlylines, all contributing to a lush tropical and colourful town centre.
“After our recent walk through we were pleased to see Council pressure-cleaning our streets, but this will need to be a on-going project, one that we will need to continue working with Council to deliver.”
Cassowary Coast Council have allocated funding for the past two years towards the façade redevelopment scheme throughout the region. This funding has seen the upgrade to numerous buildings and generated additional economic activity as a result.
The streetscape renewal push from Chamber could be funded from Council’s standard works and cleaning in the town centre without needing additional funding approval within the budget.
