Mural to celebrate a century
STUDENTS AND KODA the Support Dog all took part in the creation of a magnificent mural at Bartle Frere State School recently.
The mural which is part of the school’s upcoming centenary celebrations, features an array of native flora and fauna as well as a beautiful portrait of Koda.
It also references to the school’s scenic location: Mount Bartle Frere, Josephine Falls, and the surrounding cane fields.
Art by Lavinia created the mural with support from students during the design and also in painting various elements of the work. The mural adorns the rear of the B Block building of the school.
In addition to the mural, maintenance staff and contractors have been busy undertaking improvement works in preparation for the centenary. The main school building has been repainted, the multi-purpose sports court has been resurfaced and upgraded, and a new school sign has been erected.
The centenary event will include tours of the historic school guided by student leaders, and the draw of a Monster Raffle with prizes from Babinda Kayaking, Cairns Museum, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, Cairns Aquarium, Paronella Park, Mamu Tropical Skywalk, Trinity Petroleum, and Cairns Kart Hire.
The centenary celebration will be held at the school, 29 Price Street, Bartle Frere from 1pm on Saturday April 30, 2022
