Sister act back at Tanks
AUSTRALIAN duo Vika & Linda will return to Cairns this month, bringing new music, old favourites and almost four decades of stories to Tanks.
The sisters will perform at Tanks on Friday, 18 September, as part of their 46-date national tour supporting their ninth studio album ‘Where Do You Come From?’, released on 5 June 2026 via Mushroom Music.
The album marks their first predominantly original record since ‘Princess Tabu’ in 1996, with Vika saying it was time for the sisters to put their own experiences into music.
“We just wanted to start telling our story again and sing our own songs. It was time to sing our own songs,” Vika said.
“We’ve been interpreters for a very long time, singing other people’s songs. Great Australian songwriters have written some beautiful songs for us. But we’re at this age now where we want to tell our own story.”
For Linda, that included writing with Mark Seymour about raising her children by herself.
“I find writing about children really hard. You have to be sensitive to their feelings. You don’t really want to speak for them,” Linda said. “I had to be really careful about how it was presented, because it’s going to be there forever.”
The sisters have been visiting Cairns since their time with the Black Sorrows.
“For years, we’ve been coming to Cairns throughout our careers. One of the first tours the Black Sorrows did when we were in that band was to Cairns,” Linda said.
Vika said the tropics continued to hold particular appeal for the pair.
“We do like the vibe. We like the vibe of the people. You know, in the tropics, it just kind of appeals to our Polynesian vibe,” Vika said.
“The Tanks is a wonderful venue to play, right in amongst the botanical gardens.”
Cairns audiences can expect material spanning from the new album to the Black Sorrows years.
“We do pay tribute to our past and we will perform songs that people recognise and know because that’s very important,” Vika said.
“It’s just very intimate, with a lot of storytelling, a lot of laughs, a bit of crying, a bit of everything.” The sisters will also hold a meet-and-greet after the performance, giving audience members the chance to talk with them, buy a CD and have a photo
